In an interesting scenario, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has invited applications for the head coach of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The position was governed by Rahul Dravid for the past two years, while his tenure has ended. However, he could wish to apply again if he wants to seek an extension to the role.

The role
The job of the NCA coach would be to train and nurture young talents. He would be developing the players for the senior national side, the A and B side, and the Under-19 side, across genders. The coach should also work closely with the captain of both genders to ensure a smooth supply of talents and assist the selectors in the proper selection of the players.

Qualification
As far as the qualification for the role is confirmed, the candidate should have represented India in at least 25 Tests. Besides, he should also have training experience at the international, India A, India U-19, Indian Premier League or the India Women team for at least five years. Also, they need to be under the age of 60.

Dravid's status
As far as Dravid's status is concerned, he is a favourite to extend the role. However, an extension would mean that he would be out of contention of becoming the Team India head coach shortly.

Dravid's performance
Dravid has been applauded for his job so far, as he has produced a string of formidable Indian talent. Due to these talents, a severely injured Indian side managed to win in Australia and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy without the core side.

He was also the coach of the Indian side during the just-concluded limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka due to leading head coach Ravi Shastri being with the senior side in England. A nearly second-string side beat Lanka in the One-Day Internationals but failed in the Twenty20 Internationals.
