The United States government and Pfizer Inc are negotiating an agreement for more vaccine doses next year, the New York Times reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the situation.  

West Bengal registers 2,289 new COVID-19 cases taking the toll to 5,25,918. According to the state health bulletin, 45 people died in the state in a single day taking the toll to 9,145.

Britain's health secretary Matt Hancock told lawmakers that officials have identified “a new variant of coronavirus which may be associated with the faster spread in the south of England.” He said so far, about 1,000 cases of the variant have been identified in England, and they have alerted the World Health Organization.

School Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar said that the decision to reopen schools for Class 10 and 12 students has been taken keeping in view the upcoming board examinations.

West Bengal on Monday (December 14) reported 1,834 new cases in 24 hours, while 43 deaths took the toll to 9,100. Out of the 43 deaths, 16 are from Kolkata and 5 from North 24 Parganas.   

The suggestion came during the brief hearing of a plea by advocate Rakesh Malhotra seeking increase in the Covid-19 testing numbers in the national capital and getting speedy results.  

 So far, women commuters, not working in the essential services sector, have been allowed to travel only during non-peak hours in view of Covid-19.

India's Covid-19 fightback is improving steadily as the active caseload dropped to 3,59,819 on Saturday. The dip in active cases comes with trend of recoveries exceeding new cases and low number of fatalities per day.
