Diwali Muhurat trading 2021: Sensex climbs 296 points, Nifty ends at 1791 in Samvat 2078

Leading stock exchanges Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended nearly 0.5 per cent higher during the special Diwali Muhurat trading session on Thursday to mark the beginning of Hindu Samvat year 2078. While S&P BSE Sensex gained 295 points or 0.49% at 60,067, NSE Nifty 50 added 87 points or 0.49% at 17,916. Bank Nifty was up 0.44% at 39,573. Midcap and smallcap indices outperformed benchmark indices.

The Muhurat trading is practised to commemorate the start of the new Samvat 2078 and that is when the traditional business community open their books of account. It’s been a long-standing ritual in the Indian trading community to conduct Muhurat trading on Diwali. It is believed that this session will bring prosperity and abundance to investors throughout the year.

Gains on the Sensex during the one-hour session were led by Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), ITC, Bajaj Auto, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Kotak Mahindra Bank and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries. Mahindra & Mahindra was up 3.13% as the top Sensex gainer, followed by ITC, Bajaj Auto, and Kotak Mahindra Bank. ICICI Bank was the top loser, falling 0.43%, followed by Ultratech Cement, Asian Paints, and Dr Reddy, Financial Express reported.

On the BSE Smallcap index, Mirza International was the top gainer, up 17%, followed by Mediacamen Biotech and SKF India.

Well, domestic markets closed the Muhurat trading session with gains. Broader markets outperformed benchmark indices. Bank Nifty closed 0.44% while India VIX closed below 16 levels.

Meanwhile, BSE and NSE will be closed for two days from tomorrow. According to the stock market holiday calendar by BSE there will be no action in Equity, Derivative and SLB Segments on these days.
