While honorarium was hiked to Rs 1,000 for anganwadi workers, anganwadi assistants would get Rs 500 more.  With this, angnawadi workers would now get Rs 8,000.

It may be recalled here that anganwadi workers had brought the city to standstill when they staged protest for eight days from March 20.

They had demanded for a hike in their salary and honorarium. They slept on roads and braved the scorching sun but were determined to get their voices heard.

The chief minister then had expressed his helplessness to consider their demand in view of bypolls to Gundlupet and Nanjangud. But, had promised to consider their demands after the elections.

Chief minister kept his words and a day after the by-elections, he held the meeting. Minister Umashree and Anganwadi Workers Association president S Varalakshmi were present at the meeting.

"We had demanded for Rs 10,000. However, we have got Rs 8,000. Earlier, CM had approved for Rs 1,000 in the budget and now again, he has agreed for Rs 1,000 more. Anganwadi workers who were getting Rs 6,000 will now earn Rs 8,000 per month," Varalakshmi told reporters.
