The Hyundai Creta, a top-selling SUV in India, achieved record annual sales of over 200,000 units in 2025. However, the Mahindra Scorpio became the best-selling SUV in December 2025, selling 15,885 units and surpassing the Creta’s 13,154.

For the past few months, the Hyundai Creta has been one of the best-selling SUVs in India. This mid-size SUV recorded its highest-ever annual sales in 2025, crossing 200,000 units. These figures prove the Hyundai Creta's strong position in the segment. However, it faced a major setback in the last month of the year.

The Mahindra Scorpio overtook the Hyundai Creta in the SUV segment. In December 2025, the Scorpio became the country's best-selling SUV.

Last month, the Mahindra Scorpio sold 15,885 units. This is about 3,700 units more than in December of the previous year. An increase of about 30% indicates that the demand for the Scorpio remains strong.

The main reason for this is the positive response to the Scorpio N and the steady supply of the Classic variant. That's why the Scorpio range outsold the Hyundai Creta in the last month of the year, with the Hyundai Creta coming in second place with 13,154 units sold. However, it remained the segment leader on a monthly basis for a long time throughout the 2025 calendar year.

Why is the Scorpio so popular?

The Mahindra Scorpio was first launched in India in 2002. It quickly became a hit with its rugged design, all-terrain capabilities, powerful diesel engine, and modern features. The Scorpio changed the perception of SUVs from mere utility vehicles by offering a powerful and attractive lifestyle vehicle that was capable of traversing all terrains, from city streets to rural roads, and was also economically viable.
