The culprits of the murder of 70-year-old woman Akusetty Annapurnamma living alone in Payakapuram in Vijayawada on the night of May 19, 2017 were apprehended by the police and 28 grams of gold was seized from them on Tuesday.
Vijayawada Police Commissioner BV Ramana Kumar gave details of the murder in a press conference on Tuesday evening.
The police on the complaint of Annapurnamma’s grandson investigated the case and apprehended Kallepalli Prakash from Rajeev Nagar and his friend Indla Sai Pratap. The culprits revealed the crime in the course of questioning.
According to the details revealed by the culprits, Prakash is an auto driver involved in many crimes because of his addictions. He is on bail after being jailed for murder. Many cases were registered against Prakash and Sai Pratap at Payakapuram, Machavaram, Patamata and Suryaraopet Police Stations.
On the fateful morning, Annapurnamma got into Prakash’s auto near a petrol bunk at Payakapuram and sought the assistance of Prakash to carry the rice bag into her house. Prakash realised that she lived alone and plotted to rob her house with his two friends Sai Prakash and Nagendra Babu.
On May 19 midnight, the three came on a bike, parked it at a distance, walked to Annapurnamma’s house and knocked on her door. When she opened the door, they caught hold of her and smothered her with a pillow. After confirming her death, they robbed the chain and earrings which were on her along with other gold ornaments.
