TDP wins Nandyal How Jagan lost the elections for YSRCP

Nandyal by-election result was a major setback for YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy and the party leaders as they were unable to cash-in on the disgruntlement among the public against the TDP.

This was the first election in the state since 2014 and it was an opportunity for YSRCP to fight against the government for not fulfilling its election promises.

The Nandyal by-election campaign was an eye-opener for YSRCP and the results have proved that before the 2019 General elections, there is a lot YSRCP has to do.

The Nandyal election was crucial both for TDP and YSRCP. Jagan spent 13 days campaigning in Nandyal like no other leader. Both parties pumped have invested a tremendous amount of time and cash into Nandyal.

But the results shocked YSRCP which was expecting to win the election with a reasonable margin. TDP and YSRCP had equal chances of winning the election and people thought that it would be a close call. YSRCP pinned its hopes on Rural and Gospadu Mandals while TDP was confident of urban voter.

But the Rural and Gospadu Mandals shocked YCP as it lost in both the mandals. It is common phenomena for ruling party to instigate, threaten and buy the voters but the result depends on the mindset of the voter. Now Jagan and YCP are in the process of analysing their defeat.

According to political analysts, the main reason for the defeat of YCP was the controversial personal remarks of Jagan on Chandrababu and YSRCP Women legislator Roja’s comments on Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya’s dress sense. This led to a volley of comments and count-comments between the two groups. This diverted the main agenda of the opposition which was supposed to target on the failure of Chandrababu’s three and half year rule and his failure to fulfil his 2014 election promises.
