TDP may have to wait for quite some before it can elect its mayor in Kakinada

Though the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) won the Kakinada Municipal Corporation elections with a record majority, the party it seems will have to wait for quite some time before it can select its Mayor.

Kakinada Corporation went to polls for its 48 divisions out of 50 divisions and TDP won in 35 divisions while its ally BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) won in 3 divisions. Opposition YSRCP (Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party) secured 10 divisions.

According to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Act Section 90, Andhra Pradesh Municipal Corporation Rules, a Mayor election cannot be conducted unless all the divisions’ elections have completed. Since there are another two divisions which are yet to go to polls, TDP cannot have its Mayor.

Another pending issue is the litigation in Kakinada Mayor Post reservation which is in court. None is aware when the case will be cleared in court.

Though TDP won the Kakinada Mayor seat after a long time, it is yet to fly its flag on the Kakinada Corporation building.
