High security has been put in place in Nandyal ahead of the polls EC warns News Channels not to reveal opinion polls till 8:00 pm on August 23 Warns of stern action against violators
Nandyal has turned into a security fortress a day ahead of the crucial elections on August 23. The by-polls is being seen as a test of TDP's popularity in the state. TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu and YSRCP leader Jagan Mohan Reddy are both looking at securing a win.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Bhanwar Lal told the media that ahead of the polls, all outsiders from Nandyal have been ordered to live the area. Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a peaceful by-election on Wednesday, Lal said.
He said that till now Rs 16 lakhs has been seized in Nandyal and EC is taking action against every complaint that they received.
The polling on August 23 Polling will start from 7:00 am and conclude at 6:00 pm. 110 polling stations and 225 polling booths are arranged for the by-election with live webcams in every station.
A new technology called VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) is being introduced in this by-election where the voter would be able to check to whom they have voted. Braille is also available in VVPAT for the convenience of the blind, Lal said.
He said 2,500 security personnel had been posted in the constituency. Six companies of paramilitary forces had been deployed for security. He said 82 flying squads would check the 255 polling stations in Nandyal constituency.
A few more measures put in place include:
- All outsiders have been asked to leave Nandyal.A
- All liquor shops have been shut down.
- 16 News Channels in the State have been issued a warning and have been asked not to reveal opinion polls.
