Left parties Chalo Vamsadhara suppressed by AP government

All parties and unions of Andhra Pradesh government called for ‘Chalo Vamsadhara’ protest on Tuesday against the illegal methods adopted by the AP government towards Vamsadhara project evacuees.

The police made preventive arrests across the district of Srikakulam on Monday as top leaders of CPI (Communist Party of India), CPM (Communist Party of India Marxist), AP Ryhtu Kooli Sangham, AP Rythu Sangham and other organisations were expected to reach Hiramandal on Tuesday morning to participate in the agitation.

The massive agitation was called to protest against government’s forcible methods against the Vamsadhara displaced people even though they sacrificed their lands and houses for the projects. CPI State Secretary K Ramakrishna, speaking about the arrests, criticised the government for shutting the mouths of the displaced instead of allowing them to voice their thoughts.

He also informed about the 30 hour dharna in Vijayawada on 16th and 17th October to voice the problems of evacuees due to Vamsadhara and Polavaram projects.

39 people have been arrested on Tuesday including CPM leader P Madhu, K Ramakrishna, former MP Midiyam Baburao, YSRCP (Yuvajana Sramika Ryhtu Congress Party) political administration committee member Dharmana Krishnadas and Perada Tilak.

The arrests were condemned by leaders of all parties.
