Former model red sanders smuggler attempts suicide in Andhra jail

A former air hostess and beauty queen Sangeeta Chatterjee, lodged in a jail in Chittoor, allegedly tried to commit suicide because she was not getting bail. She is facing trial in a red sanders smuggling case. She allegedly consumed phenyl kept in a toilet and was rushed to the Chittoor Government hospital following that. She is out of danger.

Hailing from Kolkata, the 26-year-old is the second wife of the prime accused M Lakshman who was arrested in July 2014 in Nepal. They both had met in Kolkata where Lakshman frequented often since he had created a base there too. Sangeeta, at that time, was working as a model. After Lakshman got arrested, Sangeeta had taken over control of his network's illegal activities. In fact, she was the main mind behind expanding the smuggling network to countries like China and Japan. 

Her gang was alleged to be involved in red sanders smuggling from the forests of Chittoor, Kurnool and Kadapa districts in Andhra Pradesh.
