Chalo Kirlampudi evokes huge response from Kapu community

Chalo Amaravathi agitation of former MLA and Kapu reservation activist Mudragada Padmanabham was stopped by Andhra Pradesh government on the grounds of no permission and security problem. Mudragada has been under house arrest since July 26th. The Kapu community from all parts of the State wished to join in the padayatra but since Mudragada was confined to his home, they came up with a new ‘Chalo Kirlampudi’ to meet their leader at his home in Kirlampudi.

With the call of Kapu JAC (Joint Action Committee), youth from two constituencies  came to Kirlampudi on a single day to meet the leader. Their plan is to see that different leaders and supporters visit Kirlampudi at different dates till permission for the padayatra is granted. For the past three days, Kapus from both East and West Godavari districts visited Mudragada and he asked them to wait patiently for two months.

Mudragada also asked women to participate in huge numbers in the agitation. Women responded to this call and are actively coming to Kirlampudi. On Sunday Kapu leaders from Peddapuram, Pratthipadu and Pitapuram from West Godavari District, Narsapur and Nidadhavolu from East Godavari District and from Nellore and Visakhapatnam districts came in huge numbers to offer their support.

Simhadripuram Kapus near Kirlampudi came in bullock carts while Kapu youth from Dharmavaram and women from Rajupalem came to Kirlampudi. Mudragada alleged that CM Chandrababu is trying to portray the percentage of Kapu community to be lesser than his Khamma community.

He said, “It’s been three years since Chandrababu came to power but there is no progress on reservation. Manjunath Commission report came in seven months but even after ministers promised reservation last February, even after a year there’s been no action taken except for house arrest when questioned.”
