Andhra doctors to fight with government over poor healthcare facility

Andhra Pradesh government doctors are to lock horns with the state government over the poor medical facility and substandard infrastructure of the hospitals. The doctors are planning to stage a protest to highlight the issues and also draw attention to the demands for improving the healthcare facility in the state.

The primary concern for the government doctors is the condition of the government hospitals and healthcare centres. Patients often complain about the same to the doctors, the Deccan Chronicle reported.

The medical equipment in the healthcare centres is another matter of concern for the doctors. The blood pressure apparatus in few centres do not provide proper readings due to which the doctors often face embarrassment and patient complaints. Similarly, the x-ray machines are also old and do not function properly.

The report quoted the doctors as saying that many hospitals and healthcare centres lack basic equipment. Those that have the equipment, many of them are either outdated, or they do not function properly because of lack of maintenance.

On the other hand, the state government on multiple occasions has claimed that it has improved the infrastructure in government hospitals to match it with private hospitals. However, it has been done only in a few hospitals, and most of the government hospitals are in bad condition.

Many hospitals built quite a while ago are on the verge of collapsing, there are no sufficient doctors and staffs to cater to the patients, lack of advanced medical equipment in the government hospitals are becoming a big challenge for the health care of the state.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh state government is investing more than 180 crores in the construction of the temporary secretariat at Velagapudi that has irked many including the government doctors.

The doctors will hold talks with the state government, and they will try to solve the problems in a peaceful manner. However, if the fail to achieve the same then a state-wide protest can be expected, the report quoted the AP Government Doctors’ Association state secretary-general as saying.
