After 30 years, TDP bags Kakinada municipal seat

  • TDP won 32 seats out of 48 divisions in Kakinada Municipal Corporation
  • YCP won 10 seats while BJP 3 and others 3
  • In TDP-BJP alliance, TDP contested in 39 divisions while BJP in 9 divisions
After 30 years TDP bags Kakinada municipal seat

After a phenomenal win at the Nandyal by-polls, the ruling Telugu Desam Party, now has gone on to win the Kakinada Municipal Corporation seat. This is the first time, TDP has won the seat in the last 30 years.

TDP dominated the counting scene right from the start of the counting on Friday and finally emerged victorious in 32 divisions of the 48 divisions.

YSRCP (Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party) won in 10 divisions, TDP’s ally BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in 3 and independent in 3 wards. The independent candidates are all rebels from TDP.

TDP in its alliance with BJP contested in 39 divisions while its ally BJP contested in 9 divisions. The fight over the Nandyal election seat was a matter of prestige to both TDP and YSRCP. After winning Nandyal and now the Kakinada seat, TDP has once again strengthened its position in the state.
