US woman arrested for fatally shooting boyfriend in Youtube stunt

A pregnant teenager in Minnesota has been charged with second degree manslaughter for shooting her boyfriend in a YouTube stunt. Monalisa Perez fired from her .50 caliber gun to see if the bullet would pierce through a hardcover book he held close to his chest.

Perez told the police that she fired from about a foot away (.33metres). However, her boyfriend, Pedro Ruiz III died of a single gunshot.

The gun used during the stunt is called the Desert Eagle and is considered one of the most powerful and dangerous hand guns. This gun is known to pierce through a human rib cage and tear through a bullet proof vest. But it’s unclear if the couple knew just how fatal the result would be.

According to reports, it was Ruiz’s idea that his girlfriend shoot him with a gun. He wanted to film this so that they would get more followers on their YouTube channel.

The teenager couple gained a fan following after they uploaded pictures of them performing stunts and pranks. In fact, Perez tweeted earlier that they would perform the most dangerous stunt yet and said it was her boyfriend’s idea.

Perez, who has a 3 year old daughter, is pregnant with a boy due to be delivered in September. She now faces a fine of $20,000 fine or 10 years in prison.

Ruiz's aunt Claudia told a local news channel that she warned her nephew not to go ahead with the stunt. However, he was defiant about wanting more followers. Another of Ruiz's aunt, Lisa Primeau, told Star Tribune, that he was a "dare devil" and didn't hesitate before performing extreme activities. She added that he put a dangerous twist to everything.
