Explosions were reported from multiple locations across Pakistan, including major cities Karachi and Lahore, sparking panic amid ongoing regional tensions.
Explosions were reported from multiple cities across Pakistan on Thursday, including major urban centres Karachi and Lahore, triggering panic and uncertainty amid heightened military tensions in the region.
In Karachi, Pakistan’s financial capital, residents reported hearing loud detonations in the afternoon. Videos circulating on social media captured the sound of explosions and rising anxiety in the city. While the exact nature of the blasts is still unclear, preliminary reports suggest a possible drone-related incident. State media outlets confirmed explosions in parts of the city but did not offer further details.
Meanwhile, Lahore witnessed a series of loud explosions earlier in the day. At least two powerful blasts were heard near the Walton Road military airport in the morning. According to eyewitness accounts, a drone-like object was spotted flying close to the Walton Airport just before the blasts occurred, raising speculation about the nature and source of the attack.
Two additional explosions were reported near Askari 5, a high-security residential area in Lahore. Sirens were reportedly heard across the city following the blasts. So far, no official statement has been issued by Pakistani authorities regarding casualties, damage, or the identity of those responsible for the explosions.
In response to the escalating security situation, the Pakistan Airports Authority has suspended flight operations at several major airports, including Karachi, Lahore, and Sialkot. Commercial air traffic remains grounded as a precautionary measure while authorities assess the threat level.
Security forces have launched search and surveillance operations in the affected areas. However, there has been no confirmation from the Pakistani military or government regarding the origin or targets of the blasts. Social media has been flooded with videos, audio clips, and reports from citizens, many of which remain unverified at this time.
These incidents come on the heels of Operation Sindoor, a multi-pronged Indian military strike targeting terror camps inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The Indian operation was launched in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 25 Indian civilians and one Nepali national.
The coordinated operation involved the Indian Army and Air Force, which destroyed nine terrorist camps linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), including four located inside mainland Pakistan.
India’s preemptive action drew global attention, with several countries recognising India’s right to self-defence and condemning cross-border terrorism. As the region braces for potential aftershocks, both militarily and diplomatically, Thursday’s explosions have further fueled concerns of an escalating conflict between the nuclear-armed neighbours.
