Coronavirus scare: Bengaluru medical stores overcharge for masks; BBMP warns of action

Pharmacies are turning predators during this volatile situation. With the coronavirus scare looming large, the customers have complained that they are being charged over Rs 200 per mask that cost about Rs 50. BBMP says action will be initiated against such store owners.

With Bengaluru coming under strict vigilance for coronavirus after few people tested positive, medical shops are fishing in troubled waters by charging exorbitant rates to sell masks.

The protective masks that cost anywhere between Rs 50 to Rs 100 per unit is being priced over Rs 200 in some stores.

As few complaints have reached medical stores, the department started to make inspections and warned a few shop owners.

The BBMP’s health department says that action will be taken against such store owners.

The BBMP which does not have control over the pricing of drugs will rope in the drugs control department and the legal metrology department to raid such shops and cancel their trade licences for overcharging.
