Bengaluru: Police complaint against BMRCL and BBMP for picking up the axe

Angered by the BBMP and BMRCL for identifying 165 trees to cut in order to facilitate underground metro line between Bannerghatta Road to Shoolay Circle, a high court advocate has filed a complaint against these agencies and has asked them to translocate trees instead of chopping them.

As the BBMP is getting ready to facilitate the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) in chopping down 165 trees for underground metro line, a police complaint has been filed against them.

High court advocate S Umesh says, the BBMP is the custodian of trees and BMRCL has written a letter to them to facilitate the execution of this for the metro line between Bannerghatta Road and Shoolay Circle. As BBMP has called for tenders to chop trees, the advocate says he filed a complaint against both the agencies.

He says instead of chopping them, the trees should be translocated to places like Bengaluru University, Cubbon Park, Lal Bagh or empty places and nurtured to ensure regrowth.
