With an eye on 2023 elections, Karnataka Cabinet reshuffle on the cards?

As Covid has thrown a challenge to the public and many leaders failing to meet the expectations in serving the public, it is said the BJP has decided to make changes into the Cabinet next month. In July 2019, BS Yediyurappa managed to form the government by engineering defections of Congress and JD(S) MLAs, and now the changes are likely to take place before he completes two years in office.

If reports are to be believed, then BJP is likely to make changes into the BS Yediyurappa-led Cabinet next month.

This exercise is to prepare in advance for state elections in 2023. The sources say that many old faces will be replaced with new faces and those dropped will be given responsibility to strengthen the party organisation.

The party top brass is said to be unhappy with few leaders as they allegedly failed to perform during these tough times and did not earn the confidence of the public.

The seniors in Delhi also have noticed that the Karnataka Congress is becoming stronger by the day and to gain an upper hand against them, the party feels the need for a big change.

The party that came to power with help of Congress and JD(S) defectors is likely to retain them or may reshuffle to give new responsibility. Removing them will send a wrong signal and the Opposition will get an opportunity to take a dig at the government and accuse the administration of making such leaders scapegoats.

Why the changes?

It is said that top BJP brass are not happy with a few minister's records. They are also not satisfied with some leaders in the state at district and taluk levels.

The party leaders have also observed that these leaders have not worked during recently concluded by-elections and local body elections and also did not perform satisfactorily in the present pandemic situation.

As the BJP government under CM BS Yediyurappa will complete two years in office at the end of July, these changes are likely to take place.
