Social media is abuzz with demand for action against senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram for his appeal to people to "revolt" against the Union government.

In a series of posts, Chidambaram had on April 28 slammed the government's handling of the second wave of Coronavirus in the country and its claims that there is no shortage of vaccines or anti-viral drug Remdesivir.

Chidambaram said, "I am appalled by the statement of the Union Health Minister that there is no shortage of oxygen or vaccines or Remedesivir. I am also appalled by the statement of the U.P. Chief Minister that there is no shortage of vaccines in U.P."

"Are all the television channels telecasting fake visuals? Are all the newspaper stories incorrect? Are all the doctors lying? Are all the family members making false statements? Are all the visuals and photographs fake? People must revolt against a government that is assuming all the people of India are fools," the Congress leader said.

The remarks were met with criticism on Twitter with many urging the Union Home Ministry to take cognizance of the provocation and take action against Chidambaram.
