Is there a political coup in the offing in Maharashtra? Well, the rumour mills went on overdrive on Sunday when Union Home Minister Amit Shah did not dismiss reports of his meeting with Nationalist Congress Party supremo Sharad Pawar.

Asked by media persons about his rumoured meeting, Amit Shah merely quipped, "not everything can be made public".

The remarks come at a time when the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi finds itself in an embarrassing position over major allegations of extortion and political interference in investigations levelled by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh against state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.

On Sunday, Sena fired a salvo at Deshmukh through its official mouthpiece 'Saamana'.

In the 'Saamana' editorial, Sena MP Sanjay Raut stated that the NCP leader got the Maharashtra Home Minister's chair by accident after Jayant Patil and Dilip Walse refused to accept it. He also wondered how Deshmukh could be unaware of Sachin Vaze carrying out extortion while sitting in Mumbai Police Commissioner's office.

On Sunday, a cornered Deshmukh announced that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray would order a judicial inquiry into the matter. He, however, refused to resign from the post till the probe was completed.

Meanwhile, NCP spokesman Nawab Malik flatly rejected any confidential meeting between Amit Shah and Sharad Pawar in Ahmedabad. However, Amit Shah's cryptic reply suggests that there could be more to the story than meets the eye.
