Kolkata: West Bengal government on Thursday extended Covid-19 restrictions in the state till August 15 with certain relaxations. The new lockdown guidelines will be applicable from July 31 morning.

While night curfew hours remain in place between 9 pm to 5 am except emergency and essential services.

The State Executive Committee of West Bengal State Disaster Management Authority recommended a further extension of restriction measures as already in force with graded and calibrated approach to relaxations as required after a review of the current situation of Covid pandemic.

Government programmes to be allowed in indoor places with not more than 50% of the total seating capacity.

Buses, taxis, autorickshaws have been permitted to operate with 50% capacity.

Offices, both government and private, are also allowed to function with half the manpower, according to an order.

West Bengal Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi has asked the district administrations to ensure that all Covid-19 protocols are strictly enforced and any very strict action should be taken against those violating norms. The violators will be punished as per the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

District administration, Police Commissionerate and local authorities shall ensure strict compliance of the Covid directives, the Chief Secretary stated in its order.

Issuing a press release, the state government reiterated that wearing of masks, maintenance of physical distancing and health and hygiene protocol must be followed at all times.

Meanwhile, West Bengal had on July 14 extended the ongoing restrictions until July 30 in view experts warning about a possible third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic by August or September. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced certain relaxations.
