Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has tested positive for Covid-19 and is isolating himself, he tweeted this afternoon. The announcement comes a day after he went under isolation following some of his officials of his office testing positive for the virus.

"On showing the initial symptoms, I got my Covid-19 test done and my report has come positive. I am in self-isolation and fully following the consultation of physicians. I am doing all tasks virtually," the CM said in a tweet.

Yogi Adityanath said he will dispense all his chief ministerial duties virtually.

Yogi Adityanath had recently participated in an event organised by Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Minister Ashutosh Tandon who has also tested positive for the virus.

This has come in the midst of West Bengal assembly elections, where CM Adityanath was one of the star campaigners for the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The Uttar Pradesh government has already announced restrictions on gatherings of five or more people in religious places for effective control of the Covid-19 pandemic during Navratri and Ramadan.

Last week, the state government ordered the closure of all schools till April 30. It also directed to impose night curfews from 9 pm to 6 am in districts reporting more than 100 new infections every day.
