Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on Friday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence for more than an hour amid concerns over the UP government’s handling of the Covid-19 crisis and reports of friction within the BJP’s state unit.

Yogi Adityanath then left to meet BJP national president JP Nadda. A day before, Adityanath met Union home minister Amit Shah.

"Today, I had the privilege of meeting respected PM Modi and get his guidance. I wholeheartedly thank him for taking out time from his busy schedule for the meeting and his guidance," the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister tweet roughly translated from Hindi read. The Prime Minister's Office tweeted a picture of the meeting.

The chief minister is on a two-day visit to the national capital from Thursday to meet the BJP top brass.

His visit comes close on the heels of the party holding a series of review meetings in Lucknow, which had fuelled speculation of a ministerial reshuffle in the state.

With elections due next year, the BJP has decided to strengthen the party in the state by seeking feedback from its leaders in the wake of the outcome of panchayat polls and the murmurs from some sections over handling the Covid-19 situation.

The party has also decided to prepare a strategy based on feedback received from its state leaders and ministers in the Yogi Adityanath government, strengthen the image of the state government and resolve the issues in the state.

These efforts are also aimed at improving the coordination between the party and the government.

BJP general secretary organisation BL Santhosh visited Uttar Pradesh earlier this week along with national vice president Radha Mohan Singh. They meet party leaders and ministers to hear their concerns ahead of the 2022 UP assembly elections.
