Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath was at the receiving end for calling social media a “belagaam ghora (unbridled horse)” as Congress leader Kapil Sibal questioned which state is “belagaam Pradesh”.

CM Adityanath, warning the party workers said that they could fall prey to media trials if they were not careful and urged them to “train and prepare” to control it.

Talking about the Pegasus spyware controversy, he also instructed the party’s IT Cell workers to counter such trials immediately without waiting for a “mahurat [auspicious time]”.

Describing the changing nature of the media landscape in India, Adityanath said that while the once-powerful print and television media had owners and editors, social media had no such “mai baap [someone at the helm]”.

Print and visual media had those at the helm who could maintain control. However, no one has control over social media. If you do not remain alert, and are not prepared, then you will become the topic of media trial, said Adityanath.

He added, Isliye is belagaam ghore ko niyantrit karne ke liye humare paas uss prakar ka prashikshan aur uss prakar ki tayyari bahut awashyak hai [That is why it is important to train and prepare to control this unbridled horse].

Meanwhile, Congress leader Kapil Sibal tweeted, “Yogi Adityanath ji Calls social media a “belagaam ghora”. “Train and prepare” to rein it in, he urged. Which state in India is a “belagaam pradesh”? Train and prepare to rein it in.”

On the other hand, BJP national president JP Nadda, from today is on a two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh, which will go to the polls early next year. He will hold a series of organisational meetings, including with Union ministers, MPs and MLAs from the state. According to a party statement, Nadda will address a meeting of ‘corona warriors’, a reference to health personnel and other key workers engaged in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, in Agra on August 8.
