Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has announced that local train services will resume from February 1, 2021, for all commuters in Mumbai and its suburbs.

However, there will be some restrictions in place for commuters. The general public will be allowed to travel on local trains before 7 am, between 12 noon and 4 pm and then again after 9 pm.

The decision to resume the services was taken in a meeting of the state government, the Railways and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Station masters have reportedly been informed to run trains on a full schedule.

According to reports, as many as 80 lakh passengers used the local train services in Mumbai before the lockdown was imposed in March 2020 after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

Government sources said that guidelines for crowd control and management are being put in place.

Commuters would not be allowed to board the train without masks, sources added.
