Srinagar: Two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants, including a foreigner, were involved in the killing of a special police officer (SPO), his wife and daughter in Pulwama district, police said.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said SPO Fayaz Ahmad's wife and daughter tried to save him, but they were also fired upon by the militants.

Two terrorists on Sunday late evening barged into the cop’s house and opened fire upon the family. SPO Fayaz Ahmad was killed on the spot while his wife and daughter were critically injured in the attack, the police said.

According to the police, the officer's wife Raja Begum and his daughter Rafiqa Jan, later succumbed to the injuries,

"There is a movement of Jaish terrorists in the area and it seems that two foreign terrorists carried out the attack," IGP Kashmir said.

"They (militants) fired indiscriminately on our SPO. His wife and daughter tried to save him, but they fired at them as well. They were taken to a hospital," he said.

Kumar said the loss of the SPO along with his wife and daughter has "pained us a lot" and assured that the militants involved in the act will be neutralised soon.

"We will soon identify them (attackers) and neutralise them," he added.

Asked whether the militant outfit behind the attack had been identified, Kumar said, "Obviously, there is movement of JeM in this area, so Jaish must be behind it."

The terrorists have been resorting to target killings since last week. Two people and an inspector of police were killed by two pistol borne terrorists at Kralpora in Nowgam area of Srinagar last week.

While two days after this terror attack, a shopkeeper was killed in his shop at Habba Kadal in Srinagar.
