The Mumbai Police Crime Intelligence Unit has filed a supplementary charge sheet in the alleged Television Rating Points (TRP) scam in which Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami has now been added as an accused.

The 1,600-page additional charge sheet, which was filed before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Esplanade in Mumbai, has enlisted seven more people as accused in the case.

Besides Arnab Goswami, Republic TV's Chief Operating Officer Priya Mukherjee, Chief Financial Officer Siva Subramaniam and two other employees -- Shivendra Mundherkar and Ranjit Walter -- have been named by the Mumbai Police as accused.

The alleged fake TRP scam was brought to light by the Mumbai Police crime branch in October last year after the Broadcast Audience Research Council reportedly filed a complaint through Hansa Research Group, alleging that certain television channels were rigging TRP numbers.

The accused have reportedly been charged with cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy.

ARG Outlier Media, owners of Republic TV, had on October 6 last year sought to quash the FIR and two subsequent charge sheets in the case. The channel had claimed that despite not being named as accused in the charge sheet, its staff was being harassed by the Mumbai Police.

On March 24, 2021, the Bombay High Court granted Arnab Goswami limited protection from arrest after hearing his petition alleging 'serious malafides' against the police.
