In a significant relief for Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday directed the Mumbai Police to give three days prior notice to the journalist if they wanted to arrest the journalist in the TRP scam case.

The court gave Arnab Goswami liberty to approach the court against any such notice.

The High Court also told Mumbai Police to complete its probe within 12 weeks.

The court order was based on the petition filed by ARG Outlier Media, which owns Republic TV and other channels and Arnab Goswami.

The petition had challenged the Mumbai Police investigation into the TRP scam and sought that the probe into the matter is transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation or any other independent agency.

Arnab Goswami's counsel contended that the first information Report and the chargesheet filed by Mumbai Police were only intended to target him for taking on the Maharashtra government.

The counsel also said despite having probed the case for over four months, the police was yet to come up with concrete evidence linking Arnab Goswami to the case.

Considering public prosecutor Deepak Thakare's submission that the TRP scam investigation will be completed within 12 weeks, the court refused to stay the investigation and posted the next hearing for June 28.
