The Tamil Nadu government which was also in a fix over the announcement of Class 12 exams has come out with a 'think out of box' solution as it took weightage from class 10 and class 11 results to for promoting class 12 students.

As per reports, 50% from total marks obtained from class 10,  20% weightage from class 11 will be clubbed with 30% of internal assessment and practical exams for class 12  and this will be key in determining students' promotion. The state board had winded up with practical exams before the pandemic enforced lockdown in April.

Quoting a government release, a report said that practical exams will carry 20% and internal exams will carry a weightage of 10 marks. In case of the absence of practical exams in some stream, then the theory exam marks will be taken into consideration.

The release also stated that in case if students have missed the theory exam, internal assessment, practical exam both in class 11 and also in class 12, those students will be considered as private candidates and once the situation normalises, exams will be conducted for them.

The decision comes in the backdrop of Supreme Court asking each state to come out with results before July for class 12 students.

TN government had to cancel exams for students following the surge in Covid cases.

CM MK Stalin then directed the School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and School Education Department secretary Karkala Usha to take a decision soon on this matter and ordered for a committee to be set up involving academics and experts three weeks ago. Based on the committee's report, this evaluation criteria was announced by CM today.
