Telangana government imposes night curfew till April 30; what's allowed, what’s not

 Amid the continuous surge in Covid-19 cases, the Telangana government has imposed night curfew till April 30. The night curfew will be in place from 9pm to 5 am till April-end.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has imposed a night curfew in the state starting Tuesday a day after the high court expressed strong displeasure against the state's response to the Covid-19 crisis.

On Monday, the Telangana High Court had directed the state government to take a call on imposing lockdown or curfew in the state in the next 48 hours.

Night curfew will be in force from 9 pm to 5 am till April 30. All the offices, firms, shops, establishments, restaurants and others should be closed at 8 pm. Hospitals, diagnostic labs, pharmacies and those dealing with the supply of essential services such as media, e-commerce deliveries and Petrol pumps among others have been exempt from the restrictions.

Movement of all people shall be prohibited from 9 pm onwards barring government officials, medical personnel and those coming from or going to airports, railway stations, bus stands on production of valid ticket, among others.

There would be no restriction on inter-state and intra-state movement/transportation of essential and non-essential goods. No separate permission or pass will be required for such movement, the GO said.

Public transport services including autos and taxis will be allowed to function within stipulated time for the transportation of some essential service category persons during the period of night curfew.

Movement of pregnant women and patients receiving medical care would be allowed as also of persons coming from/going to airports, railway stations and bus stands on production of valid tickets. In the orders issued on Tuesday, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar said there would however be no restriction on inter-state and intra-state movement/transportation of essential and non-essential goods. No separate permission/pass would be required for such movement.

Any violation of the aforesaid instructions will result in prosecution under Sections 51 to 60 of Disaster Management Act 2005 and Section 188 of IPC as well as other applicable laws, the GO added.

Police in the state were asked to strictly implement the above instructions.
