Eknath Khadse who had a fallout with BJP and switched sides received a jolt after ED arrested his son-in-law Girish Choudhary early morning.

As per reports, the sleuths probing the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation land deal case barged into the residence of Girish at 3 am and arrested him.

He was later subjected to intense grilling for hours. Khadse's name is not in the list of accused in this connection but he is part of the inquiry and he failed to appear before the agency for questioning.

The leader in January appeared before the agency. Earlier he had given Covid-19 symptoms as a reason to skip the probe to earlier notices.

He later approached the Bombay HC seeking quashing of the Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against him  in October 2020. He also has sought protection against his arrest by the probing agency, a report said.

The ED says that if a person fails to turn up for interrogation repeatedly, he or she can be arrested on the grounds of 'doubt'.

As per reports, in connection with the alleged scam, the state reportedly faced a loss of Rs 62 crore to the public exchequer. At the time, Khadse was Maharashtra Revenue Minister. It is alleged that Khadse's office facilitated a scam to purchase land below its actual value by misusing his power and the purchasers, his wife and son-in-law used shell company funds for the deal.

Alleging this, the agency registered ECIR against the NCP leader, his wife Mandakini and his son-in-law.

Khadse, however, has contended a political vendetta by BJP after he quit the party.
