New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday disposed off the suo motu proceedings initiated to probe larger conspiracy to frame ex-CJI Ranjan Gogoi in alleged sexual harassment case.

The apex court has cited Justice AK Patnaik report and said too much time has gone by, recovering electronic data and evidence will be difficult.

A bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian observed that “there was some reason to believe that some judgments had led to a conspiracy being hatched” against him, reported Bar and Bench.

“The suo motu case is closed and proceedings are disposed off,” it added. “There is no requirement to keep the case going on.”

“Report by the former judge enquires whether decision by then CJI on judicial side had triggered off conspiracy against him,” the court added. “Two years have passed and possibility of recovery of electronic evidence now is unlikely.”

The suo motu proceedings was initiated on SG Tushar Mehta’s request a day after sexual harassment charges were published in some news portals on April 19, 2019.

It was followed by a complaint from Adv Utsav Bains, who alleged conspiracy behind these charges.
