As the world marks International Women’s Day, President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended wishes to the women of the country, hailed their accomplishments and called to eliminate gender inequality.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended their greetings on the occasion of International Women’s Day and urged all people to take a resolve to promote gender justice and eliminate gender inequality.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the women of India and said it is the government’s honour to work towards further empowering women in the country.

Taking to his official handle, the Prime Minister wrote, "Saluting our indomitable Nari Shakti on International Women's Day."

President Kovind appealed to all countrymen to work relentlessly towards women's safety, education and independence. “On the occasion of International Women’s Day, greetings and best wishes to all fellow citizens. Women in our country are setting new records and achievements in various fields. Let us collectively resolve to promote gender justice and eliminate inequality between women and men,” he tweeted.

Besides PM Modi, President, many leaders including Union minister Prakash Javadekar, CM Arvind Kejriwal, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, CM Yogi Adityanath, Rahul Gandhi and many others also extended their Women's Day wishes via Twitter.

Each year on March 8, International Women’s Day is observed in order to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day commemorates women, who despite various challenges posed by society have proven their mettle in every sphere across the world.
