Rajya Sabha adjourned for today amid ruckus over fuel prices

 "On the request from many members from various parties, the Chairman has decided that from Tuesday, the sitting of Rajya Sabha will commence from 11 am to 6 pm as usual timings of the House. Members will sit in Rajya Sabha and gallery," MP Vandana Chavan said.

Both Houses of the Parliament will commence their sitting from 11 am on Tuesday as it was adjourned for the day after uproar over fuel prices.

"On the request from many members from various parties, the Chairman has decided that from Tuesday, the sitting of Rajya Sabha will commence from 11 am to 6 pm as usual timings of the House. Members will sit in Rajya Sabha and gallery," MP Vandana Chavan said.

Congress MPs continued to demand a discussion on fuel price rise and raised slogans, however Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh before adjourning the House till 1 pm said, “You are aware that the ruling of the Chairman can't be reopened. It can't be discussed.”

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha will function as per usual timings of the House existing before the Covid-19 situation from tomorrow.

The decision to revise the timing of both Houses was announced on Monday. Both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha were operating under curtailed hours of timing and social distancing norms amid Covid-19 induced norms.

The second part of the Budget session of Parliament began on Monday. The main focus of the government in the second part of the session is to get various demands of grants for the financial year 2021-22 passed along with the Finance Bill which carries various tax proposals.

The first part of the Budget session started on January 29 with the President's address to joint sitting of both houses of Parliament. The address was boycotted by over 20 opposition parties, including the Congress, in support of the demand of the protesting farmers for the repeal of the three farm laws.
