The announcement comes days after he met senior office bearers of his forum, the Rajini Makkal Mandram. Later on Wednesday, the 69-year-old acror had said that he "will announce his decision soon" for electoral politics.
Rajinikanth had last taken to micro-blogging site Twitter in October to clarify on reports that he reconsidering his political plans because of his health. The speculation was fueled by a leaked letter, believed to have been written by him.
Addressing a presser, Rajinikanth said, “This is the time to rewrite Tamil Nadu's fate. Due to coronavirus pandemic, I'm avoiding tours. Due to less immune power doctors have advised me to avoid tours."
He further added, “I'm alive today because of TN people and I'm ready to give my life for the people of Tamil Nadu.”
