Eliminating Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist Abu Saifullah aka 'Lambu' is a major victory for security forces in Jammu and Kashmir and marks a body blow to the Pakistan-sponsored terror network.

Turns out, Saifullah, one of the two terrorists gunned down during a joint operation in Pulwama on Saturday, is a relative of JeM chief Masood Azhar.

Not just that, according to Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army, Saifullah was one of the masterminds who orchestrated the brutal February 14, 2019 bombing of a Central Reserve Police Force convoy that claimed the lives of 40 troopers.

Trained by the Taliban in readying vehicle-born improvised explosive devices, Saifullah handled the operations of the Jaish-e-Mohammad from southern Kashmir's Anantnag, Awantipora and Pulwama.

Sources, citing dossiers handed over by India to Pakistan, Saifullah was a resident of Bahawalpur in Pakistan and worked very closely with the JeM top brass that includes Masood Azhar, Rauf Azhar and Ammar.

Sources further said that Saifullah had been tasked with re-establishing and strengthening the JeM outfit and use South Kashmir areas as a base to recruit new terrorists, train them to operate as sleeper cells and then deploy them to targeted parts of India for carrying out attacks.

With the security forces being on the offensive, hunting down at least 90 terrorists since January 2021, terror outfits had been unable to regain a foothold in the Valley.

And now, with the elimination of Saifullah, any attempts of the Jaish and Pakistan's espionage agency Inter-Service Intelligence to regroup have been thwarted.

An American M4 assault rifle, an AK-47 and a Glock pistol were recovered from the neutralised terrorists after the encounter at Hangalmarg in Pulwama district's Tral.
