Prashant Kishor met Gandhis to strategize 2024 polls: Sources
According to sources, the meeting was not about the Punjab or Uttar Pradesh polls as speculated, but about "something bigger" - an indication that Prashant Kishor might be looking at a significant role in getting the Congress battle-ready for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
After holding multiple meetings with NCP supremo Sharad Pawar last month, poll strategist Prashant Kishor on Tuesday met former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
According to sources, the meeting could result in a major decision over the party's strategy in Punjab ahead of the Assembly elections due next year.
There was speculation that the meeting at Rahul Gandhi’s residence was related to the Punjab and Uttar Pradesh elections as leaders such as former Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat, who also is the Congress in-charge for Punjab, and KC Venugopal, general secretary (organisation), were spotted entering the premises.
However, sources aware of the developments said since the entire Gandhi family was present for the meeting, the agenda was national politics — specifically sprucing up a blueprint for the 2024 polls.
The sources said this is not the first time that the ace strategist has met with the Congress's first family; the discussions raise the possibility of Kishor - a transformative figure in several elections and for many regional leaders - linking up with the Congress once again after his bitter experience in the UP polls of 2017.
Meanwhile, even as Congress’s Punjab drama continues to play out, a new tweet by dissenter Navjot Singh Sidhu has only further stirred the political potpourri in the state which ostensibly responds to AAP’s challenge of speaking on funds allegedly taken by his party from private companies.
Replying to AAP’s challenge, Sidhu said, “Our opposition AAP has always recognised my vision & work for Punjab. Be it before 2017- Beadbi (sacrilege), Drugs, Farmers Issues, Corruption & Power Crisis faced by People of Punjab raised by me or today as I present ‘Punjab Model’, it is clear they know - who is really fighting for Punjab.” He posted videos of AAP leaders praising him in the past.
