Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated a three-day urban conclave event ‘Azadi@75 – New Urban India: Transforming Urban Landscape’ Conference-cum-Expo. He also digitally handed over keys to beneficiaries of the central housing scheme to 75,000 beneficiaries in 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Hosted by UP's urban development department, PM Modi laid the foundation stone of 75 Urban Development Projects of Uttar Pradesh under Smart Cities Mission and AMRUT today.

He also flagged off 75 buses under FAME-II for seven cities including Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, and Ghaziabad.

The Prime Minister also released a Coffee Table Book encompassing 75 projects implemented under various flagship missions of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present at the occasion.

“I am happy that the houses being given under PM Awas Yojana in the country, more than 80% of them are owned by women or they are joint owners. Women will be empowered under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana,” PM Modi said while interacting with beneficiaries.

“Since 2014, our government has approved the construction of more than 1 crore 13 lakh houses in cities under PM Awas Yojana. People question what has Modi done after becoming PM but I will tell you. Opposition wastes its energy in criticising me.”

“We have fulfilled the dreams of the poor by building 3 crore houses. Under PM Awas Yojana, Central government has transferred nearly Rs 1 lakh crore in the accounts of the poor.”

He further said, “After 2014, our government has given the permission to build over 1.13 crore houses under PM Awas Yojana, in the city. Of these, over 50 lakh houses have been built and given to the poor so far.”

Modi’s visit comes amid a major uproar in the state and elsewhere over the death of nine eight persons, including farmers and a local journalist, during violent clashes at Lakhimpur Kheri district on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who has been under detention, shared two tweets since morning wherein she addressed the Prime Minister while speaking about her detention by the Uttar Pradesh government without any order or FIR and a viral video in which a car was seen driving over protesters, followed by another vehicle hitting the farmers.
