PM Modi inaugurates projects worth Rs. 1500 crores in Varanasi, lauds UP's handling of COVID second wave

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated various development projects worth over Rs 1500 crores in Varanasi. 

The key projects include multi-level parking at Godaulia, Ro-Ro Vessels for tourism development and three-lane flyover bridge on the Varanasi-Ghazipur Highway.

"Kashi has shown that it doesn't stop or get tired even in difficult times. The past few months have been very difficult for the entire mankind. But entire UP, including Kashi, faced the mutating and dangerous form of Coronavirus with all its might," said PM Narendra Modi addressing the public.

"Kashi is becoming a large medical hub of Purvanchal. Today facilities are being made available in Kashi too for diseases for the treatment of which one had to go to Delhi and Mumbai earlier," the Prime Minister further said. 

"UP which was considered difficult to do business in till a few years ago, today UP is becoming a favorite place for Make in India," he added.  

"Ro-Ro vessels facilities that begin today will help the tourism sector in Kashi thrive further. Our boatmen are also being given better facilties. Diesel boats are being converted into CNG. This will bring down their expenses, benefit the environment and attract the tourists," said PM Modi. 

In 2018, with the help of Japan, the foundation stone of Rudraksh convention centre was laid. Kashi is a very important centre for spirituality, literature, music. This is going to be inaugurated today. This is a joyous moment, said CM Yogi Adityanath. 

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described as "commendable" the efforts of the Uttar Pradesh government in combating the Covid-19 crisis. 

"The way in which UP has controlled the second Covid wave and stopped its spread is unprecedented," the Prime Minister, who arrived at his parliamentary constituency earlier in the morning, said while addressing a gathering.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Varanasi today to be received by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel.

Ahead of Varanasi Visit, PM Modi spoke on World Youth Skills Day and said, “India's thought process has always been ahead as far as skills are concerned. Skill development of the youth of the new generation is a national requirement and a major foundation for Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”

“The challenges of this global pandemic have increased the importance of World Youth Skill Day,” he further said.
