In a landmark event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched the ‘PM GatiShakti - National Master Plan’ for multi-modal connectivity to economic zones in the country, marking a milestone for the infrastructural landscape of India.

The project is the brainchild of the Prime Minister who has been a strong advocate of ending silos in government functioning and bringing more inter-departmental and ministerial synergies.

He had announced 'PM Gati Shakti — National Master Plan' in his Independence Day speech on 15 August this year.

"We are laying a foundation for the next 25 years. This national master plan will give 'gatishakti' to development plans of the 21st century and will help in the timely completion of these plans," the Prime Minister said after launching the plan.

"The PM Gatishakti Master Plan not only brings together the government process and its various stakeholders, but it also helps to integrate different modes of transportation. This is an extension of holistic governance," he said.

"In our country, the subject of infrastructure has been far from the priority of most political parties. This is not even visible in his manifesto. Now the situation has come that some political parties have started criticising the construction of necessary infrastructure for the country."

Mentioning to the BJP-led central government, he noted, "We have not only developed a work-culture of completing the projects within the stipulated time frame, but today efforts are being made to complete the projects ahead of time."

PM GatiShakti will address the past issues through institutionalizing holistic planning for stakeholders for major infrastructure projects. Instead of planning and designing separately in silos, the projects will be designed and executed with a common vision, said Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

It will incorporate the infrastructure schemes of various Ministries and State Governments like Bharatmala, Sagarmala, inland waterways, dry/land ports, UDAN etc.

Prime Minister also inaugurated the New Exhibition Complex (Exhibition Halls 2 to 5) at Pragati Maidan during the event. India Trade Promotion Organisation's flagship event, India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2021 will also be held from November 14-27, 2021 in these new exhibition halls.
