Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana in Gujarat through video conferencing on Tuesday.

An official release by the Prime Minister's Office said that a public participation programme is being launched in the state of Gujarat to create further awareness about the scheme.

PM Modi said that after the launch of the programme he has interacted with a lot of people and experienced that PMKJAY has empowered crores of people.

Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) is a food security welfare scheme that was envisaged by the Prime Minister to provide assistance and help mitigate the economic impact of Covid-19. Under PMGKAY, additional foodgrain of 5 kg per person is given to all beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act.

The PM said that the aim of the government is that every Indian should get food. He added that this programme will continue across the country till Diwali and they won't have to pay a single penny to bring groceries in their homes.

The PM said that in these unprecedented times the world is applauding the way India is handling the crisis situation. Modi reiterated the idea of bringing 'One Nation, One Ration Card' which will contribute to the country's development and no citizen will be malnourished.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and deputy Chief Minister Nitinbhai Patel are also present on the occasion.

More than 3.3 crore eligible beneficiaries in Gujarat got 25.5 Lakh Metric tonnes of foodgrain, incurring a subsidy amount of more than 5 thousand crore.

To further strengthen food security for migrant beneficiaries, One Nation One Ration Card implemented so far in 33 States/UTs
