In a bid to boost national health infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated 9 medical colleges in Siddarthanagar. He also launched the Pradhan Mantri Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana (PMASBY) in Varanasi.

Nine medical colleges inaugurated are situated in the districts of Siddharthnagar, Etah, Hardoi, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Deoria, Ghazipur, Mirzapur and Jaunpur.

8 Medical Colleges have been sanctioned under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for 'Establishment of new medical colleges attached with district/ referral hospitals"' and 1 Medical College at Jaunpur has been made functional by the state government through its own resources.

As per an official statement, he will also inaugurate various development projects worth more than Rs 5200 crore for Varanasi.

Addressing a public meeting in Siddharthnagar, PM Modi said naming the new medical college in Siddharthnagar after Madhav Babu was a tribute to his service. "Madhav Babu's name will also inspire young doctors who come out of here to continue to serve the people," PM Modi said.

"With the construction of 9 new medical colleges, about 2,500 new beds have been created, new employment opportunities have been created for more than 5,000 doctors and paramedics," he added.

Speaking further PM Modi said, “Earlier, Purvanchal's image was ruined by previous govts, it was defamed because of 'dimagi' fever... The same region will now infuse new hopes... people of UP can't forget how Yogi ji had highlighted about UPs poor medical system in Parliament, despite not being a CM.”

Lashing out at the Opposition, PM Modi questioned, “Has it ever happened before that 9 colleges were inaugurated?”

“Its reason is political priorities... Previous govts were only filling their family lockers and earning for themselves. But our priority is to save poor's money and provide them facilities,” he said.
