Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly-developed Gandhinagar Capital Railway Station on Friday.

Ahead of the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi said he has always wanted the country's Railway stations to be of top quality, where apart from travels, there is a boost to commerce, hospitality and more.

The Gandhinagar Capital railway station is equipped with world-class amenities that include a luxury hotel.

The station is equipped with facilities like ample waiting spaces, a columnless roof to provide weather protection, an air-conditioned multipurpose waiting hall, a baby feeding room, improved signages and modern toilets and an interfaith prayer room for the common man.

The redeveloped station can handle 1,500 passengers in peak hours without the concourse and 2,200 passengers with the concourse.

The station has a five-star hotel constructed above the operational railway tracks and platform. It also boasts of a 7,096 sq metre station concourse area for food, retail and other commercial use.

The 71 crore redevelopment project took four years to complete.

The station has a parking facility for over 300 vehicles and a seating capacity of 500 people on platforms.

Made of sustainable materials, the station conserves the naturally built environment. It also reduces water, electricity requirements through energy-efficient designs, rainwater harvesting and recycling of water.

The Gandhinagar Capital station also boasts 32 theme-based lightings that are changeable daily. The concept is the first-ever on Indian Railways.

The future-ready Railway station is the first of its kind project in India. Similar Station Redevelopment Programmes is being undertaken in Bengaluru and Bhopal. The total redevelopment investment for 123 stations along the lines of the Gandhinagar Capital Railway Station is worth over Rs 50,000 crore.
