Amid speculation about a possible 'Ghar Wapsi' to the Trinamool Congress, West Bengal BJP leader Mukul Roy received a telephone call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.

PM Modi enquired about the health condition of Mukul Roy's ailing wife, Krishna Roy, who is now admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata. She was infected with Coronavirus on May 10 and is now suffering from post-Covid complications.

The prime minister's call is significant, as it came after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee visited the hospital on Wednesday evening. In a panic response, shortly after Banerjee's visit, state BJP president Dilip Ghosh rushed to the hospital at night.

Mukul Roy is one of the early defectors who jumped the ship. Later, he became BJP's national vice president.

However, sources claim that he is feeling neglected in the party during and after the Bengal Assembly elections.

On the day of his oath-taking as an MLA, Mukul Roy avoided the BJP's meeting at the Bidhan Sabha building and instead exchanged courtesies with his old colleague TMC's Subrata Bakshi.

Though he cleared the air with a tweet post and assured that he is still a BJP soldier, his son Shuvrangshu Roy, another TMC-renegade BJP leader, started singing out of tune. In a recent Facebook post, ex-Bijpur MLA condemned the state BJP leadership, saying, 'Self-criticism is more necessary than criticising a government elected by people.'

All these events came at a time when some new BJP recruits like Sonali Guha and Bachchu Hansda have openly talked about returning to the Trinamool Congress after Mamata Banerjee's landslide victory in state elections.

There is speculation that BJP's national vice President Mukul Roy and his son both are upset with state leadership. The discord was apparently fueled more when another former TMC leader Suvendu Adhikari was made the Leader of Opposition in the state. Since then, there have been rumours that he is considering a return to the TMC.
