PM Modi dedicates 35 PSA oxygen plants funded by PM CARES to nation

A devastating second wave of the coronavirus during April-May this year left the healthcare infrastructure of the country struggling and exposed the void of poor medical preparedness in the face of a calamity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday dedicated 35 pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen plants to the nation across 35 states and Union Territories, built using PM CARES funds at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh in Uttarakhand.

The Prime Minister’s Office said that 1224 such oxygen plants have been financed by PM CARES all throughout the country and 1,100 of these plants have already been commissioned, providing an output of over 1,750 metric tonnes (MT) of oxygen per day. With these, all districts of the country will now have commissioned PSA oxygen plants, the PMO has said.

These plants’ operations and maintenance have been ensured by training more than 7,000 personnel. They come with an embedded Internet of Things (IoT) device for real-time monitoring of their functioning and performance through a consolidated web portal.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya were also present on the occasion and hailed Modi’s massive step towards achieving a better healthcare system in India.

"India has shown the way to the whole world by building the CoWIN platform that how vaccination is done on such a large scale," PM Modi said wjile addresing the gathering. 

He further said, "In such short span of time, facilities made available by India shows country's capability. From 1 testing lab to establishment of a network of 3,000 testing labs and from import of masks and kits to its manufacturing, India is quickly moving forward as an exporter."  

"Over 1,150 oxygen plants funded by PM Cares working, every district in country now covered by these plants," PM Modi added.
