Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday virtually inaugurated several key projects in his home state of Gujarat. Projects inaugurated by PM Modi include the newly-redeveloped Gandhinagar Capital railway station, the newly-electrified Surendranagar-Piparav section, the gauge converted-cum-electrified Mahesana-Varetha line, as well as three new zones in the Ahmedabad-based Gujarat Science City.

The Gandhinagar Capital railway station is equipped with world-class amenities that include a luxury hotel. PM Narendra Modi also inaugurated the Aquatics and Robotics Gallery and Nature Park in Gujarat Science City during the event.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaisnaw also attended the event.

Two new trains were also flagged off by the Prime Minister. While one will connect Gandhinagar Capital with PM's Lok Sabha constituency of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, the other is a Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) service which will link Gandhinagar Capital with Varetha.

The highlight, however, was PM Modi inaugurating a revamped Vadnagar railway station. PM Modi's father Damodardas Modi had a tea stall inside the Vadnagar railway station. During his younger days, the PM used to help his father sell tea at the station.

The needs of 21st Century India can't be fulfilled through the ways of the 20th Century. That is why Railways needed reforms through a new approach. We worked to develop Railways not only as a service but as an asset, the result of which can be clearly seen today, the PM said.

Srinagar will very soon be connected to Kanyakumari via rail. Horizontal and vertical expansion of Railways is important for development. The new Gandhinagar Station reflects a change in terms of infrastructure. It is proof of optimum utilization of modern technology, also resulting in employment opportunities, he added.

PM Modi described the Gandhinagar Capital-Varanasi weekly superfast express as a service which will connect the land of Somnath (Gujarat) with the land of Vishwanath (Uttar Pradesh).

Major railway stations across the country are being modernised, stations in tier-2 and 3 cities are being equipped with Wi-Fi services and unmanned railway crossings have been completely removed from broad gauge lines, he remarked.

The Science City project is a mix of recreation and creativity. The aquatics gallery is even more interesting; not just the country's, but it is one of the top aquariums in Asia, said PM Modi.
