Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting during which three empowered groups gave him presentations on the Covid-19 pandemic situation in the country.

Among other things, the Prime Minister was given an overview of the situation relating to oxygen availability, medicines, health infrastructure, etc.

The officials informed Prime Minister about the enhanced allocation of oxygen to states.

The production of Liquid Medical Oxygen in the country has increased from 5700 MT per day in August 2020 to the present 8922 MT (April 25, 2021).

The domestic production of Liquid Medical Oxygen is expected to cross 9250 MT per day by the end of April 2021, the officials said.

Besides, Prime Minister Modi was briefed about the functioning of the Oxygen Express trains as well as the domestic and international sorties being undertaken by the Indian Air Force to transport oxygen tankers.

The Prime Minister directed the officials to work closely with state governments to start the PSA Oxygen plants at the earliest.

To recall, the Centre had announced the establishment of 551 pressure swing adsorption plants from PM CARES funds. The plants are expected to boost oxygen availability at the district level.

The empowered group responsible for medical infrastructure and Covid management informed Prime Minister Modi about efforts being undertaken to ramp up the availability of beds and ICUs.
