Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh has approached the Bombay High Court seeking quashing of the FIR in which he has been named as one of the accused. In his plea, the former top cop accused the Maharashtra government of launching a 'witch hunt' against him.

Param Bir, who is now DG Maharashtra Home Guard, has also approached the Bombay HC against the actions being taken by the Maharashtra state government. He has requested the Bombay HC to direct the Maharashtra government to not take any coercive action against him.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi appeared for Param Bir Singh before a division bench of Justice SS Shinde and Justice Manish Pitale of the High Court.

The matter will be heard on May 4. Singh has also prayed that CBI is directed to investigate criminal conspiracy and malicious attempts to thwart CBI's preliminary inquiry against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.

An FIR has been registered against the former Mumbai CP, DCP Parag Manare and 31 other police officials based on a complaint given by Police Inspector Bhimrao Ghade just days ago, for allegedly requesting a police inspector to drop corruption charges against Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) commissioners.

Following the inquiry, the Anti-Corruption Bureau was asked to investigate the allegations by the DGP.

Ghadge has alleged that during his tenure, several officers there under Param Bir Singh had indulged in various acts of corruption. Ghadge, who is now posted in the Akola police control room, had also alleged that after he refused to obey Singh's instructions, 5 FIRs were registered against him and he was suspended.

Meanwhile, advocate Rohatgi cited different dates, including that of Param Bir Singh's petition in the Supreme Court and another in the Bombay HC against former Maharashtra home minister and NCP leader Anil Deshmukh.

In his petitions, Param Bir Singh had accused Anil Deshmukh of ordering policemen, including suspended API Sachin Vaze, to collect Rs 100 crore from businesses in Mumbai.
