Chandigarh: A fast-track court in Haryana's Faridabad awarded life imprisonment to two convicts, Tauseef and Rehaan, in the sensational Nikita Tomar murder case. The third accused Azruddin, who had supplied the weapon, was acquitted.

21-year-old Nikita was shot in broad daylight in Haryana's Faridabad on October 26 last year. The incident happened during a failed abduction attempt that was caught on camera.

Both the convicts were found guilty under sections 302 (murder), 366 (kidnapping a woman to compel her into marriage), section 506 (criminal intimidation), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. Both are already in jail since their arrest in October last year.

Prime accused Tausif was caught on CCTV shooting Nikita Tomar at point-blank range after the failed abduction bid. After his arrest, he revealed to the police that he shot Nikita as she was about to get married to someone else.

The final-year B.Com student had stepped out of her college after an exam when Tausif confronted her, trying to force her into a car, police had said.

The two accused were later arrested on the basis of CCTV footage of the crime.

Following the murder incident, huge protests were held across Haryana. A five-member Special Investigating Team (SIT) was firmed by the Haryana Police which had filed a 700-page chargesheet before the court on November 6.
